No new idea was generated when MySpace focused on music. When bands signed up, MySpace didn’t stop them. It simply responded to market forces, accommodating artists so desperate for web presence they shoehorned themselves into a profile designed for an individual person. The result is a marginalization of the individuals who play in the band, as well as bizarre side effects like fans asking permission to be “friends” with bands. “Thanks for the add,” I suppose, but I could do without the insanity.
